Then please consider this exciting new role to work with a highly motivated and skilled team to support the membership in key areas related to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), accountability to affected people, strengthening complaints mechanisms and people management. Other topics may be developed over time.

What we expect from you

You will work closely with the CHS Alliance Policy team and the members themselves to identify the areas where common challenges are found in implementing the CHS and find creative and forward-looking means to play a supportive role in finding collective solutions to work better with and for people affected by crisis. Specifically, you will:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Find creative mechanism with the members to share experiences and progress learning and find solutions to improving how organizations can meet the CHS.
  • Support the Head of Policy in the strategic analysis of data showing how organizations are meeting the CHS and where and how the CHS Alliance and other partners can support.
  • Coordinate engagement with external partners to further the support provided to members.
  • In close interaction with the other senior staff including the Head of Policy and the Executive Director, be part of the public face of the CHS Alliance.
  • Support the Executive Director on strategic engagement with donors and identify fundraising strategies that benefit the organization.

Your profile

You are a seasoned professional with 10 to 15 years of progressively responsible experience in leading programmes for non-profit organizations with a global membership reach; and more specifically:

  • You have experience in finding the means to engage members around collective goals.
  • You have proven experience as NGO programme director or other senior managerial position, including in the field.
  • You fully understand the NGO sector and humanitarian action.
  • You have expertise in working with and for communities.
  • You embrace a spirit of problem-solving, communication and entrepreneurship to work with and adapt to multiple stakeholders around the world.
  • You have valuable relationship skills and are able to convene people to find common collective solutions.
  • Your colleagues describe you as an exceptional communicator and advocate, and you would be comfortable representing CHS Alliance at the highest level.
  • You enjoy working in small teams and guiding others in their work.
  • You have excellent oral and written English skills that are articulate and succinct, with other working languages as an asset.
  • You commit to the CHS Alliance values, vision and mission and commit to be personally and collectively responsible for upholding and promoting the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct. This includes refraining from acts of misconduct, respecting the CHS Alliance’s standards and the dignity of those whom the Alliance pledges to assist and with whom they have contact.

Terms and conditions

Reports to: Executive Director

Responsible for: Accountability Manager and PSEA Manager, plus possible interns and consultants as required

Location: Geneva or London

Contract type:  open-ended contract – full time (80% considered for the right candidate)

Start date: early 2019
