Assessment Against the CHS – User Guidance

This guidance presents methodology, tools and advice for aid organisations conducting an assessment against the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS). It includes templates for collecting information and document evidence. It is primarily designed for the CHS assessment team and any other person or entity coordinating the efforts of an organisation through an assessment.

What is an assessment against the CHS?

We use the term ‘assessment’ to refer to the ‘self-assessment’ which is entirely conducted by an internal team or facilitated by a consultant, or the ‘peer review’, conducted by a team from peer organisations. A CHS assessment measures how well an organisation applies the nine commitments of the CHS in its policies, systems and practices. The assessment helps organisations to identify good practices and areas for improvement.
