Bangkok CHS Exchange

How do we increase trust and accountability to make aid work better for the people we serve?

The Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) was launched in late 2014. It was a collaborative effort by our sector to address this question by providing a clear and measurable standard to make aid work better for people.

Five years on, humanitarian and development experts will come together in Bangkok to discuss the progress that applying the CHS has made, and what more needs to be done to drive change for the people we serve.

On19-20 November, we will exchange knowledge, learning and ideas and identify how we can strive to meet the commitments we have made to affected people – as set out in the CHS.

Join us and be a part of this important milestone event for the CHS.

Concept note with draft agenda

Over the course of the Exchange, we will explore:

  • What we have learned as individual organisations and collectively, through the application of the CHS in some of the most challenging areas;
  • How we build on this learning to improve our service to people affected by crisis;
  • How the CHS Alliance can enable a collective approach to applying the CHS.

Amman CHS Exchange

A session at the previous CHS Exchange in Amman

Who should attend?

The event is designed for CHS Alliance members and partners (including NGOs, donors, UN agencies, Q&A platforms). It will be particularly valuable for executive directors, country directors, accountability managers, policy heads, and HR professionals.

This exchange will be based on the experience of organisations which have applied the Standard. It will build on discussions that took place in London in November 2018 and in Amman in July 2019.

Benefits of attending

Participants will come away with:

  • Increased knowledge of the CHS: More detailed understanding of the CHS Nine Commitments
  • Learn from, and share with, colleagues the successes and challenges experienced in applying the CHS
  • Understand more about the different verification options and what option is best for your organisation
  • Engage in discussion with others working on issues connected to Accountability to Affected People, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment, and People Management
  • Find out more about CHS Alliance services and how we can work together to drive positive change.

Hear what two attendees of previous CHS Exchanges have to say about their experiences.

Practical information and registration

The event itself is free, but participants need to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. It based on group learning, enabling participants to share their experiences and insights with one another.

We hope you will join us in Bangkok.
