2016 protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Conference Report

The CHS Alliance 2016 PSEA conference examined the theme of investigating allegations of SEA by aid workers in Bangkok on 5-6 September 2016. The conference report provides a summary of speaker presentations and participant discussions on the challenges of investigations and recommendations for investigators and organisations. Speakers included Menaca Calyaneratne (Save the Children), Aurélie Martin (UNHCR), Paul Nolan (GCPS Consulting), Morgan Pillay (UNFPA), and Aungkie Sopinpornraksa.

Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) - Japanese

The Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) sets out Nine Commitments that organisations and individuals involved in humanitarian response can use to improve the quality and effectiveness of the assistance they provide. NGO HR Impact Paper

This paper describes a sample of human resources (HR) impact metrics tools, with examples of how to use them. A systems perspective of measuring the impact of HR activities on delivering results within the corporate and public healthcare sectors and implications for use within the non-governmental organisation (NGO) sector is examined. Recommendations are given for organisations wanting to adopt measures for the first time or develop their practice of HR impact evaluation further.

Start Network Talent Development Coaching: Monitoring and Evaluation Initial Report

This report analyses a survey of twenty-three participants who received coaching as a component of the Start Network Talent Development Programme. Since March 2015, the CHS Alliance, working with a team of coaching experts, trained 60 in-house and 55 independent coaches in Kenya, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Bangladesh. The three-year DFID-funded project is run by a consortium led by Save the Children UK with Oxfam GB, the CHS Alliance, and Relief International.

Global Standard Operating Procedures - Best Practice Guide Inter Agency Community Based Complaint Mechanisms

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), developed on the directive from IASC Principals in May 2015, constitute global-level guidance for inter-agency cooperation in the field. It aims at facilitating joint actions by humanitarian agencies and organisations in response operations to protect beneficiaries from SEA. It also strives to enhance the collective capacity of the agencies and affected populations to prevent and respond to SEA committed by aid workers.

Monitoring aid in insecure environments

This research aimed to improve the monitoring of humanitarian assistance in insecure environments with a focus on Afghanistan, South Central Somalia, South Sudan and Syria. It had two main goals: first, to assess available options for aid agencies to monitor assistance, given the constraints that insecurity entails, and second, to identify principles of good practice and particular aspects where monitoring approaches could be improved.

Toolkit on Technologies for Monitoring in Insecure Environments

This toolkit focuses on six technologies that practitioners deemed useful in insecure environments because they can function without constant electricity supply, across large distances and without advanced computing skills. Checking the heartbeat of humanitarian assistance - Initial reflections from the Listen Learn Act project
