Price: 0 GBP for members, 0 GBP for non-members

People In Aid's AGM and Members' Forum provides an opportunity for members to network, learn about People In Aid's current and future strategy, and influence our workplan. A keynote presentation in the morning should stimulate plenty of debate, and panel presentations and plenary discussion in the afternoon, followed by a reception.  Places are free.

Keynote:

HRBP – Beyond Partnering?!

Objectives
To review the relevance of Ulrich’s Business Partner model
To share experiences of its use
To maximise the benefits of Business Partnering in your own organisation
To experience an alternative large group intervention

Description
This highly interactive session with Ed Griffin (Associate at Roffey Park Institute) will enable you both to further your understanding and use of Business Partnering, as well as participating in a World Café intervention. This will give you the opportunity to share experiences and exchange best practice to maximise the benefits of Business Partnering, rather than being the potential victim of an HR fad.

Our AGM at 12.30 will be after the opening session, which will be followed by a networking lunch at 13:00.

After lunch, there will be a round table ‘Turbulent times – exploring agency responses to the changing political and economic landscape’ for all participants able to stay. It will center on the turbulent times we are in, and their implications for humanitarian and development agencies and HR professionals.

Managing People Effectively at a Distance

Duration: 1 day
Location: London, UK
Booking Deadline: -
Price: 55 GBP for members, 110 GBP for non-members

Learning Outcomes

Trends such as re-structuring work around strategic goals, decentralisation, delivering through partnerships, and increased recruitment of national staff have led to a significant increase in the need to work across organisational, geographical and cultural boundaries. Managers who continue with their existing practices and processes using technology to try to overcome the difficulties of distance management have met with mixed results. Innovative approaches are needed.

This workshop will enable and encourage managers and HR professionals to be more pro-active in managing people effectively at a distance, and offer participants an action plan to take the learning back to their agency. This learning will include how to develop and maintain relationships, the challenges and opportunities of geographically dispersed teams, the role of the manager, and using technology more effectively.

By the end of the workshop participants will have gained a deeper understanding of the issues and practical ways to improve their effectiveness when managing people at a distance. Participants will also have developed an action plan for taking the learning back into their organisations.

Facilitators

Facilitators will be drawn from J Hill Associates’ network of organisational development consultants with experience in both the commercial and non-governmental sectors:

Jacqueline Hill works with NGOs both in the UK and overseas on strategic planning, change management and team effectiveness

Cornelia Decher works with commercial organisations in improving their distance management practices, people management and team interpersonal skills.
