CHS Alliance elects new Vice-President and two Board members


On 10th December the CHS Alliance announced the results of its Board elections, which took place electronically from 3rd to 7th December, at a webinar. The new Vice-President is Shama Mall, Deputy-Director of Community World Service Asia (CWSA). In addition, the member organisations of the CHS Alliance elected two new Board members, namely Allan Calma, Regional Program Coordinator at The Lutheran World Federation, and Makena Mwobobia, Head of Policy and Programs at ActionAid Kenya.

Towards collective accountability in Chad


Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) is currently carrying out a second survey round in some of the most crisis-affected regions of Chad within the framework of a joint project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Based on the points of view and priorities of people affected by crisis, we will monitor the implementation of the Humanitarian Response Plan 2017-2019 for Chad against the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS).

Towards a revised ‘PSEA Index’

The CHS becomes a foundation chapter of the Sphere Handbook


On 6 November Sphere launched the new edition of its flagship publication, the Sphere Handbook. In this latest version, The Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS), besides the Humanitarian Charter, is now one of the founding chapters of the Handbook to facilitate greater accountability to people affected by crisis, staff, donors, partners, governments and other stakeholders.

Cash for food in Afghanistan - CWSA boosts Commitment 5 of the CHS through continuous involvement of returnee community


Since January 2017 Community World Service Asia (CWSA) has supported 1,900 returnee Afghan families by virtue of three small-scale emergency relief projects. As a member of the CHS Alliance and ACT Alliance - which certified against the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) in November 2017 - CWSA puts crisis-affected people at the centre of their assistance.

Mainstreaming PSEA in the employment cycle


At the Safeguarding Summit our Executive Director, Tanya Wood, participated in a panel on preventing transgressors entering the aid sector by looking at the employment cycle. Moderated by Jonathan Potter, former Executive Director of People in Aid, the panel was also joined by Steve Reeves, Director of Safeguarding at Save the Children, Kate Halff, Executive Secretary of the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Affairs (SCHR) and Paul Stanfield, Director of Organised and Emerging Crime at INTERPOL.

Safeguarding Summit – Putting People First: highlights and take-aways


On 18 October DFID’s Safeguarding Summit brought together more than 500 people to address sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment in the aid sector. NGOs, government representatives, private sector, donors and international organisations joined survivors and victims to jointly commit to a thorough, ‘generational’ change in the way our sector tackles the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).

Humanitarian community in Chad discusses accountability toward crisis-affected populations


The CHS Alliance and Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) undertook a joint visit to N’Djamena, Chad, from 23 September to 2 October within the framework of a joint project. Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the project aims at collecting the points of view and priorities of affected people in order to monitor the alignment of the Humanitarian Response Plan 2017-2019 for Chad with the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS).

How change happens in the humanitarian sector – CHS Alliance launches flagship report


On 1st October the CHS Alliance, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), launched the 2018 edition of the Humanitarian Accountability Report (HAR) in Geneva. Two years after the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, at which the humanitarian sector committed to substantial changes, the Alliance’s flagship report sheds light on what has happened, what not and why.
